French filmmaker Xavier Dolan‘s (Mommy) latest film unites Oscar winner Marion Cotillard (Inception) with fellow reputable french actors Nathalie Baye (Catch Me if You Can), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan), Lea Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Color), and Gaspard Ulliel (Saint Laurent) in It’s Only the End of the World.
Following Ulliel’s Louis, the story sees him return home for the first time in 12 years to inform his family of his terminal illness. Tensions mount among himself, his mother (Baye), his sister Suzanne (Seydoux), his older brother Antoine (Cassel) and Antoine’s wife (Cotillard). Secrets and past grievances rise to the surface over the intimate yet estranged group.
The film won the Grand Prix and Ecumenical Jury Prize at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Dolan’s 2014 submission, Mommy, won the Cannes Jury Prize. At only 27, the young filmmaker already has 8 films under his belt, all of which have garnered acclaim at various high-profile festivals and among critics.
