Sources with The Hollywood Reporter say that Warner Bros has brought an additional writer on board for Batman vs. Superman to refine and polish David Goyer’s script. The chosen writer, Chris Terrio, previously worked with Ben Affleck, who will play Bruce Wayne/Batman, on Argo, which won last year’s Oscar for Best Picture.
Along with Man of Steel producer and Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan, David Goyer has been a central figure in recent DC’s big screen efforts, beginning with writing Nolan’s Batman Begins. After finishing the script for Batman vs. Superman, Goyer has moved on to other projects including the recently announced Sandman adaptation and the forthcoming Justice League. With that in mind, although THR’s sources say that Terrio is only on hand to “get the script in shape,” there’s no clear indication as to what that entails. Several of Goyer’s more recent efforts, including both The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises credit him as writing the story, not the screenplay. While that’s obviously not the case here, it could point to Goyer penning a first draft to maintain continuity with other films before turning it over to someone else. Given Terrio’s previous success, he seems like an odd choice as someone who would just take a second look at a screenplay, but this is also a keystone piece for Warner Bros.’ future superhero movie plans. With all three core members of the Justice League (Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman) set to appear in this movie, Warners can ill-afford to miss.
Principle photography for Batman-Superman will begin early next year. The finished film is scheduled to reach theaters in July 2015.
