After the debut of The Substance, and its success that followed in its wake, many fans have been wondering if there will be a sequel or any type of follow up to the film. Coralie Fargeat was responsible for writing and directing The Substance, a drama film mixed with body-horror elements, that generated a lot of attention upon release. The film followed a celebrity who is rapidly fading from popularity as she gets older, leading her to using a black market drug to make an ideal copy of herself.
Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley both led the film, with Dennis Quaid, Edward Hamilton-Clark, and Gore Abrams.
While the story of the film is made conclusive by the end, many have wondered if there would ever be some type of follow-up to the film, focusing on the titular drug in the hands of another user. With how much it’s been discussed, as well, Fargeat herself weighed in on the matter to Variety.
“No, the point of this movie is to bring fresh things to the world. No sequels, no prequels,” Fargeat said, according to ScreenRant.
However, Fargeat was also quick to add on to this with a nod to an upcoming project that she described as “fresh.”
