Wim Wenders’ 3D Doc ‘Anselm’ Picked Up for U.S. Distribution

Anselm, the Wim Wenders documentary about contemporary artist Anselm Kiefer, has been acquired by U.S. distributors Sideshow and Janus Films.

The critically acclaimed film, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival this year, was shot in 6k resolution and in the 3D format that Wenders has used for his other works.

Sideshow and Janus Films are currently planning for a fall theatrical release of Anselm. The film, which took over two years to shoot, explores the life and creative process of Anselm Kiefer, a German artist whose work with sculpture and mixed media reflects themes of German history, including the horrors of World War II.

Anselm was a labor of love and turned out to take seven shooting periods and altogether three years to become a film like nothing I’ve ever done before,” said Wenders, “I think we stretched the possibilities of 3D into an unknown territory. So, you can imagine how happy I am to be working again with my good friends at Sideshow and Janus Films.”

Besides Anselm, Sideshow and Janus Films also picked up Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s About Dry Grasses and Catherine Breillat’s Last Summer from Cannes. They have been picking up films from Cannes for U.S. distribution since 2021.

Anselm has also been acquired for distribution in France, Italy, Greece, Germany, Spain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, China, Scandinavia and the Baltics.
