Willem Dafoe Says He’d Be Interested in Returning As The Green Goblin

Willem Dafoe recently expressed interest in returning to his iconic role as the Green Goblin if asked to return. The four-time Oscar nominee starred as the antagonist in the original Spider-Man film from 2002, directed by Sam Raimi. However, in an interview with Inverse, Dafoe said he’d return, “if everything was right.”

“I mean, that’s a great role,” he continued. “I liked the fact that it’s a double role both times. Twenty years ago, and fairly recently, both times [were] very different experiences, but I had a good time on both.”

Dafoe reprised the role alongside original Spider-Man actor, Tobey Maguire, in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, the multiverse extravaganza featured all three Spider-Men (Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland) and their respective villains, Dafoe included.

Maguire has also expressed interest in returning to his role. “I love these films, and I love all of the different series,” Maguire went on to say. “If these guys called me and said, ‘Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?’ or ‘Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?’, it would be a ‘yes!’ Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?”

Dafoe may have trouble clearing up his schedule to appear in another Spider-Man flick, as he is involved with various projects coming out this year and in 2023, including his new thriller Insider that’s in theatres now and the much anticipated Nosferatu, directed by Robert Eggers.
