Willem Dafoe and Pedro Pascal Round Out ‘The Great Wall’ Cast

Legendary Pictures’ upcoming historical epic, The Great Wall, has finalized its cast and is gearing up to move into production. Willem Dafoe (The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Pedro Pascal (The Adjustment Bureau) have joined the a cast that is headlined by Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity).

The movie tells the story of the construction of The Great Wall of China and is a joint-production between Legendary Pictures and a Chinese production house. It’s the largest movie to be shot in China for global distribution. Being a co-production, the cast also includes Andy Lau (Infernal Affairs), Eddie Peng (Unbeatable), and Tian Jing (Police Story 2013) as well as many other local Chinese actors. Bryan Cranston was in talks to join the film but those plans fell through.

This will be the first time Damon has worked with Dafoe, though the Ocean’s Eleven actor did share the screen with Pascal in The Adjustment Bureau. Pascal is fresh off his role as Oberyn Martell on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

The movie is being directed by Yimou Zhang (House of Flying Daggers) and was written by Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton). Not coincidentally, Gilroy also wrote the scripts the the Bourne franchise that starred Damon. The Great Wall is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on November 23, 2016 and will start shooting at the end of the month.
