Well Go USA has grabbed North American distribution rights to the Chinese satire I Am Not Madame Bovary starring Fan Bingbing. Xiaogang Feng (Aftershock) directed the feature based on Liu Zhenyun’s 2012 novel I Did Not Kill My Husband. The film made it world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
The film centers around a woman who is accused of adultery by her ex-husband. Following a ruling against her at her divorce hearing, she then travels on a “journey of petition” to Beijing in an effort to clear her reputation. Guo Tao and Da Peng also star. Well Go USA will release the film in the United States and Canada on October 7th, shortly following it release in China on September 30th.
Well Go USA Entertainment president & CEO Doris Pfardrescher commented, “I Am Not Madame Bovary is a powerful and innovative film starring one of China’s most acclaimed actresses under the direction of a true master. This is a transformative role for Fan Bingbing and one which we think will translate with North American audiences.”
