Emmy Award nominated star of HBO’s Watchmen series, Jovan Adepo, is joining Divergent actress Shailene Woodley and Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn for a new serial killer thriller titled, Misanthrope. The film will be directed by Damián Szifron with a script he co-wrote with Jonathan Wakeham.
Misanthrope follows a talented but troubled cop who’s recruited by the FBI to help profile and track down a mass murderer. Adepo will play a young FBI agent named MacKenzie, who is deeply involved in the investigation.
Back in 2016, Adepo starred alongside Denzel Washington and Viola Davis in the Oscar-winning drama Fences. He was also seen in the 2018 World War II zombie action film, Overlord. Adepo will also in Denzel Whitaker’s upcoming TV-movie, 5150.
Szifron’s last feature-length project was the 2014 Argentinian comedy-thriller Wild Tales, which earned a high-flying 94% certified fresh critic score on Rotten Tomatoes with 156 reviews.
Woodley most recently starred in the 2019 romantic drama Endings, Beginnings, which also starred Fifty Shades actor Jamie Dornan and MCU star Sebastian Stan. She’ll also star in the upcoming Guantanamo bay drama, The Mauritanian, alongside Jodie Foster, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Levi and Tahar Rahim.
Aaron Ryder is producing Misanthrope for FilmNation Entertainment alongside Stuart Manashil, Woodley and Szifron. The film is set to shoot sometime this month in Montreal.
