Watch Tom Hanks Re-Team With Steven Spielberg in the ‘Bridge of Spies’ Trailer

Director Steven Spielberg and lead actor Tom Hanks are back together 11 years after making the dramedy, The Terminal. This time they’ll be tackling slightly more serious fare (i.e. the Cold War) with Bridge of Spies. However, as the trailer makes clear, this war does not “involve men at arms, it involves information” in an intellectual battle and arms race between the United States and the Soviet Union.

Hanks portrays insurance lawyer James Donovan who is tasked by the C.I.A. to defend a Soviet Spy in U.S. court as part of a larger plan to later swap him for an American pilot who has been detained on Soviet soil. Hanks’ Donovan wears the white hat as he fights for the freedom of a man already condemned in the minds of U.S. citizens.

The film also stars Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone), Alan Alda (The Aviator), and Mark Rylance (The Other Boleyn Girl) as the Soviet prisoner. The script, which is based on true events, was written by Joel and Ethan Cohen (Inside Llewyn Davis) along with Matt Charman (Suite Française).

Bridge of Spies is slated for release on October 16, 2015.
