Watch the First Trailer for Lena Waithe’s Bonnie & Clyde-Inspired ‘Queen & Slim’

The new trailer for the upcoming film Queen & Slim is finally out. The film, boasting screenplay by powerhouse Lena Waithe-famous for her co-writing and acting in Netflix’s Master of None and for creating the Showtime series The Chi- is a modern day take on Bonnie and Clyde. The film is about a couple who, on their first date, get pulled over for a minor infraction. After the situation escalates, the cop threatening them is killed in self-defense and the couple speeds off. Of course, in the age of cell phones, the incident is recorded and shared online across social media, leading to the couple becoming famous and a series of media-frenzied chases and protests ensuing in wake of their actions.

The film stars Get Out actor Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith as the lead couple, with Bokeem Woobine, Chloë Sevigny, Indya Moore, Sturgill Simpson, and Flea as supporting actors. The film is an adaptation of an original idea by James Frey, writer of ‘The Lorien Legacies’ from which the 2010 film I Am Number Four came. Melina Matsoukas, director of Beyonce’s “Formation” and the Nike “Equality” campaign, will make her feature film debut as director and producer.

Queen & Slim will be released by Universal Pictures on November 27, 2019.
