The international trailer for director Bong Joon-ho’s latest film Parasite has just been released, and already it’s stirring up some considerable buzz. Parasite is a hybrid thriller and dark comedy about members of the Kim family, all of whom are unemployed and forced to survive together until they cross paths with the much wealthier Park family. One by one, each member of the Kim family weasels their way into the lives of the Parks until the lives of both families are interlocked.
Some of the themes that Parasite deals with include greed, family, and of course classism. Based on early reviews from critics, it seems like director Bong Joon-ho has done an excellent job discussing and deconstructing these topics. Parasite was initially screened at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival back this spring and was met with universal positive reception, even going on to become the first Korean movie to ever receive the Palme d’Or award.
Parasite was initially released in its home country of South Korea in spring 2019, but it will see an international release on October 11th 2019. As stated earlier, Parasite was directed by Bong Joon-ho, best known for directing Snowpiercer, and stars Song Kang-ho, Jang Hye-jin, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, and Lee Jung-eun.
