The Revenant, Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s much anticipated follow-up to his Oscar-winning film Birdman, now has a full-length trailer, courtesy of 20th Century Fox.
Starring Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street) as frontiersman Hugh Glass, the story (based on true events) follows Hugh’s revenge mission after being left for dead by his fellow travelers following a bear mauling. The film also stars Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road), Domhnall Gleeson (Unbroken), Will Poulter (The Maze Runner), and Lukas Haas (Inception).
Iñárritu adapted the script with Mark L. Smith (Vacancy) from the novel by Michael Punke.
The Revenant‘s previously released teaser mainly focused on DiCaprio’s death defying journey, mixing sweeping action shots with an over-layed soundtrack of his strained breaths. The official trailer brings audiences into a closer look at the plot and dialogue, showing DiCaprio’s interactions with a ruthless Hardy and a sneak peek of the bear attack.
The Revenant will see a limited release this Christmas with a wide release in January of 2016, just barely hitting the mark for Academy Award consideration.
