People can feel direct and indirect pressure to fall in love be it from their friends, family, or society in general. It’s very rare though, that our lives actually depend on it as it does for Colin Farrell’s (Saving Mr. Banks) character in The Lobster, for which Alchemy Pictures just released a trailer.
The sci-fi comedy is set in a dystopian future where single people move into a hotel and have forty-five days to find a new partner or they will be turned into an animal and released into the wild. Farrell plays David who finds himself in such a predicament. He’s accompanied by his dog, who used to be his brother and must find a new partner amongst an impressive cast that includes Rachel Weisz (Oz the Great and Powerful), Lea Seydoux (Blue is the Warmest Color), and Ashley Jensen (How to Train Your Dragon). John C. Reilly (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Ben Whishaw (The Danish Girl) also star.
The Lobster is the latest movie from writer/director Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth) who earned wide acclaim for Dogtooth. The Lobster recently won the Jury Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the festival’s top prize, the Palme d’Or.
The film will make its U.S. premiere at the end of the month at the New York Film Festival. No other release dates have been announced but Alchemy Pictures – who acquired the film in May – will likely formulate their release plans based on the film’s reception.
