Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association Sings the Praises of ‘La La Land’

The critics prizes keep a-coming. Today, the Washington DC Area Film Critics Association announced their annual prizes for the best achievements in film for the year. They were in musical mood this year, with Damien Chazelle’s La La Land topping the field earning six prizes from the critics group, including a Best Film and Best Director mention. Casey Affleck and Mahershala Ali both continued their awards take, upping their chances for potential Oscar glory, for their acclaimed performances in Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight, respectively. While Natalie Portman (for Jackie) and Viola Davis (for Fences) earned their prizes of the season.

  • BEST ACTING ENSEMBLE: Hell or High Water
  • BEST YOUTH PERFORMANCE: Lucas Hedges, Manchester by the Sea
  • BEST VOICE PERFORMANCE: Liam Neeson, A Monster Calls
  • BEST MOTION CAPTURE PERFORMANCE: Mark Rylance, The BFG
