While the release of Christopher Nolan’s espionage thriller Tenet is still up in the air, fans have plenty to be excited about, as the film’s newest trailer that will debut on the oddest place imaginable: Fortnite.
This is certainly a curious decision, as most trailers are released through other media platforms like YouTube and Twitter, but Fortnite has a uniquely broad cultural appeal. As of to date, the gaming platform has over 78 million monthly users and more than 250 million players worldwide. Fortnite has become a cultural phenomena with widespread appeal across the world, so from a purely business perspective it makes sense that Warner Brothers would utilize these creative avenues to market the picture.
While this move is surprising, it is not the first time film has come to platform The ‘battle royale’ style game has previously aired clips from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and held multiple virtual concerts featuring Diplo and Deadmau5 respectively.
The new trailer for Tenet will debut at 8pm ET in the games virtual outdoor theater and will air hourly for users. If its release is successful, it will continue to exhibit Fortnite’s power as a social space and not just as a game space.
