‘Warcraft’ Cast and Characters Unveiled at BlizzCon

Legendary Pictures took to the video game convention BlizzCon this weekend to officially announce their complete cast and character lineup for Warcraft, the film adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s popular online role-playing game World of Warcraft. Directed and co-written by Duncan Jones (Source Code), the story is set to follow the exploits of two warring factions: The Alliance– comprised of humans, dwarves, night elves, gnomes and more– and The Horde– made up of orcs, trolls, blood elves and others.

Set to join The Alliance are known cast members Travis Fimmel (Vikings) as protagonist Anduin Lothar, Ben Foster (Pandorum) as “The Guardian” Medivh, Dominic Cooper (Need for Speed) as the leader King Llane Wrynn, and Paula Patton (Deja Vu) as Garona, a survivor caught between the two camps. Filling out the rest of the faction will be Ben Schnetzer (Pride) as the gifted mage Khadgar, and Ruth Negga (World War Z) as Lady Taria, the Queen of Stormwind.

Fighting for The Horde will be Toby Kebbell (The Counselor) as this side’s leader, Chieftan Durotan, and Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim) as Durotan’s right hand, Ogrim. New additions include Clancy Brown (Cowboys & Aliens) as “The Destroyer” Blackhand, and Daniel Wu (Europa Report) as the orc ruler Gul’dan.

Although Warcraft was pushed to a later release date by the formidable Star Wars: Episode VIIthe film now rests without known competition for its chosen weekend. This could widen the film’s reach to an audience beyond that of the Blizzard gamer community. Check back for further coverage as the 2016 release date approaches.
