Matt Shakman is boldly go where no man has gone before or, well, except in this case, boldly going where a few men have gone before, directing a Star Trek film. Shakman has never directed a Star Trek film but all that is about to change.
It is interesting to note that this project will be a first for Star Trek films as there hasn’t ever been an all-female writing team on any of the movies or TV shows.
According to Deadline, the project already has plans to start shooting next spring.
It feels like it’s been forever since Paramount made plans to release another Star Trek film. The most recent film came out back in 2016 with Star Trek Beyond, which starred Chris Pine as James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock, and it grossed $343.5 million worldwide.
But wait, there’s more news surrounding Shakman. It was also announced Wednesday that Shakman had earned an Emmy nomination for directing the first Marvel Studios TV series WandaVision, one of 23 nominations for the Disney Plus series.
Things are certainly heating up for the director!
