Russian President Vladimir Putin has honored American actor Steven Seagal with a signed decree for the state Order of Friendship. The decree honors Seagal’s “great contribution to developing international cultural and humanitarian cooperation.”
Seagal has quite a history with the country and President himself. Visiting Russia regularly, he became a citizen in 2016 and was personally given his passport by Vladimir Putin. Seagal has even done governmental work as the Russian Foreign Ministry’s “special representative” to the United States and Japan.
The actor has backed Russia’s illegal takeover of Crimea and has dramatically supported its invasion of Ukraine. Seagal was an occupant in the Donbas area last summer.
Seagal acted in the 80s and 90s, including Under Siege (1992), Above the Law (1988), Hard to Kill (1990), and On Deadly Ground (1994), to name a few.
The actor hasn’t been in much since 2019; the last thing he was in was Beyond the Law. He was accused of sexual assault in 2017 by Lisa Guerrero, Jenny McCarthy, and Rachel Grant have all spoken out against the actor, to which he denied all claims.
