‘Vice’ Director Adam McKay Developing Meteor Strike Satire

Adam McKay, best known for directing last year’s Vice, 2015’s The Big Short, and both Anchorman films, will next direct an upcoming meteor-strike comedy titled Don’t Look Up. Known for his satirical work, McKay previously served as a writer for Saturday Night Live from 1995 to 2001, in addition to writing his own films. Directing comedies such as Step BrothersTalladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and The Other Guys in the 2000’s, McKay began to develop more satirical, darker comedies following the critical and commercial success of The Big Short.

While this new film is still in the scripting phase, Don’t Look Up will follow two astronomers’ discovery of a meteor intending to destroy the earth in six months, and the media frenzy that follows. Currently producing content for HBO through a deal with his company, Hyperobject Industries, McKay was part of the team that launched the hit show Succession in summer 2018. More works from the deal are additionally underway.

No plans to begin filming or release dates for Don’t Look Up have been announced as of yet.
