Even before it was released Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan was attracting controversy. News about a scene involving an interaction between Borat and Judith Dim Evans, who is a Holocaust survivor, were reported before the release of the movie. In the scene the anti-Semitic Borat, played by the Jewish Sacha Baron Cohen, disguises hisself as a Jewish person by donning an offensive costume that resembles Jewish stereotypes and enters a Synagogue. Borat then meets Evans and the two discuss the Holocaust together.
Sadly Evans passed away before the release of Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm, but her estate sued the movie for using footage of her without her permission. According to Screen Rant Cohen actually broke character and actually revealed to Evans the real purpose of the interview. It was later reported by Screen Rant that the lawsuit Evan’s estate had filed against the movie has been dismissed. Courts in Georgia officially dismissed the lawsuit unconditionally.
The original Borat movie was a lightning rod for lawsuits and controversy and it’s safe to assume that the sequel will also experience its fair share of legal response as well.
