A new film depicting the events of D-Day has found its actor to play the key role of Dwight D. Eisenhower, and that actor is Brendan Fraser. Eisenhower himself, who did go on to become president in 1953, was a commander of the Allied forces in Europe during World War II. The film, dubbed Pressure, will follow the true events of D-Day, which occurred toward the tail end of World War II.
As Deadline reports, the film will mainly follow James Stagg, the Chief Meteorologist Officer of Britain, giving Commander Eisenhower in-depth forecasts to adequately plan out D-Day. Deadline also pointed out that Fraser, now 55, is right around the same age that Eisenhower was during the events the film will depict.
Fraser himself has appeared in a multitude of movies over the years. He took on several roles in the 90’s, from movies like School Ties to The Mummy. He saw massive success recently when he took on Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, which saw him play a man suffering from obesity as he attempted to put the pieces of his life together. His role in The Whale landed Fraser the Best Actor award at the 95th Academy Awards.
Fraser marks the next in a line of actors to bring Eisenhower to the big screen. Richard Dysart played him in 1986’s The Last Days Of Patton, and even Robin Williams played a post-WWII Eisenhower in 2013’s The Butler.
