The upcoming film adaptation of Dune has added another cast member. It has just been announced that Oscar nominated French actress Charlotte Rampling has been cast as Reverend Mother Mohiam, the character Siân Phillips played in the 1984 version. Rampling is best known for her performance in 45 Years.
Originally created by the late writer Frank Herbert, the Dune franchise is a series of science fiction novels, that has been influencing popular culture ever since the first novel came out in 1965. Despite books’ popularity, Dune has had no success when it comes to film adaptations. In 1984 a film adaption of Dune, that was directed by David Lynch was released, but the film was not well received and did horribly at the box office. The movie’s production was infamously long and troubled as the project changed hands many times during production.
This new adaption of Dune is being directed by Denis Villeneuve and will star Dave Bautista, Rebecca Ferguson, Timothée Chalamet, and Stellan Skarsgard along, now along with Charlotte Rampling.
