Untitled Gareth Edwards Film Gets Greenlit With New Regency

Gareth Edwards is back at work as the director has discovered his next project to undertake. Following his enormous success directing the first Star Wars standalone film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the director is partnering up with New Regency on a currently unnamed sci-fi film which he is credited for writing and directing, according to Deadline.

While details regarding the film’s plot are unknown, the film is based on an original concept tinkered by Edwards and is set for a theatrical release sometime within the next two years. New Regency will handle the film’s production and manage its funds, with Rogue One‘s very own Kiri Hart being assigned to the task of producing.

Rogue One has the distinction of being the first Star Wars spin-off film, generated over $1.06 billion globally following its 2016 release. Prior to Rogue One, Edwards helmed the first Godzilla film and first in Legendary Picture’s MonsterVerse, generating over $525 million at the worldwide box office. New Regency, which currently maintains a deal with Disney, has been compiling an impressive project with a great director and cast including David O. Russell, who is also credited as a writer on the project, and his frequent collaborator Christian Bale. The film is currently untitled.
