Universal has picked up the new true-crime love story Peggy Jo, which will star Baby Driver’s Lily James. The film will be helmed by Rabbit-Proof Fence director, Phillip Noyce, with script from Appaloosa writer, Robert Knott.
James will play Peggy Jo, a bank robber who committed her crimes while dressed as a man. It’s loosely based on a true story of the real-life Peggy Jo, and is being pitched as, “Bonnie but without the Clyde.”
Universal Pictures has picked up the movie for Benelux, German speaking Europe, Italy, Portugal, Scandinavia, Turkey, UK, Bulgaria, former Yugoslavia, Czech & Slovak Republics, Hungary, Poland, Romania, CIS, Baltics, Israel, West Indies, South Africa, Hong Kong, Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, South East Asia Pay TV, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Latin America. The film is set to start shooting in the U.S. sometime soon, but no dates have been revealed.
James was last seen in Ben Wheatley’s 2020 Rebecca remake. She’s also known for her leading role in Disney’s 2015 remake of the animated classic, Cinderella. James is also set to star alongside Ralph Fiennes and Carey Mulligan in the upcoming biographical drama, The Dig, which will center around the historic excavation of Sutton Hoo in 1938.
