Two-Part ‘Three Musketeers” Film in the Works with Eva Green, Vincent Cassel, and Vicky Krieps to Star

Alexandre Dumas’ 1844 novel has been adapted into quite a few films, but it looks like Pathe and Eiffel filmmaker Martin Bourboulon are currently adding new adaptation to the list, this time, a big budget two-parter. The project already is in pre-production and has La Haine‘s Vincent Cassel, Casino Royale‘s Eva Green and Phantom Thread‘s Vicky Krieps.

The scripts for both films have been written by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre del la Patelliere. The first is titled The Three Musketeers – D’Artagnan, and the second is titled, The Three Musketeers – Milady. The films should start shooting simultaneously in France at the end of the summer.

“We feel a great deal of responsibility to protect the work of Dumas whilst offering an authentic and exciting cinematic saga for today’s audiences,” said Dimitri Rassam, one of France’s top producers. He’s also producing Benjamin Millepied’s feature debut Carmen, which stars Jamie Dornan and is shooting in Australia.

The most recent major adaptation of the story came in the form of Paul W.S. Anderson‘s 2011 steampunk take on the tale, which earned mostly negative reviews from critics and audiences. Even Disney tried to take on the classic tale in 1993 with Kiefer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen and Chris O’Donnell in the leading roles, but that film was also received poorly.
