Ever since DC announced that they were making a new Batman movie, people have been wondering who will get cast as some of the Dark Knight’s most iconic rogues. That cast list just got longer, as it was recently announced that Peter Sarsgaard and Jayme Lawson would be joining The Batman. Sarsgaard is, of course, well known for his iconic roles in films like Boys Don’t Cry and Jarhead, while Lawson will be making her feature film debut in the upcoming Farewell Amor.
When it was first announced that Sarsgaard would be joining the cast, many fans predicted that he would be playing Two-Face, formally Gotham D.A. and Batman ally Harvey Dent until an accident caused half of his face to get burned off. However, according to Comic Book Resources, Sarsgaard will be playing a character called Gil Colson. Like Harvey Dent, Colson will be a D.A. in Gotham City, but seems to have been created specifically for this film.
It was also revealed that Lawson will be playing a character named Bella Reál who, like Colson, does not originate from the comics. Reál is supposed to be a potential Mayoral candidate for Gotham City, harkening back to a running trend in live-action Batman programs where Oswald Cobblepot (i.e. the Penguin) has run for mayor. This includes the Adam West Batman show, Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, and even Fox’s Gotham. Perhaps Reál will be running against the Penguin, who is being played by Collin Farrell, but that’s just speculation right now.
The Batman will be directed by Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson as Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Paul Dano as the Riddler.
