Two ‘Jaws’ Docs Will Chomp At Each Other For The Blockbuster’s 50th Anniversary

Jaws needs no introduction. It pioneered special effects; it invented the modern blockbuster—and that iconic John Williams score still sends chills down fan’s spines a half-century later. Speaking of, the film is approaching its 50th anniversary!

To celebrate, a pair of Jaws documentaries are planning to make their big splashes in 2025. However, the ocean may not be big enough for both of them, so bloodshed might arise.

Recently, distributors Newen Connect grabbed the bait on Jaws: Making a Splash in Hollywood, directed by French filmmakers Olivier Bonnard and Antoine Coursat. According to Deadline, his doc features interviews with various individuals who had key roles in Jaw’s production. They include Joe Alves, production designer and director of its second sequel, Jaws 3-D; Jaws screenwriter and actor Carl Gottlieb; and Wendy Benchley, widow of Jaws author Peter Benchley.

For the second documentary, National Geographic just greenlit production of the working title Jaws @ 50. Produced by Spielberg’s Amblin Documentaries and Nedland Media, Laurent Bouzereau (Timeless Heroes) will direct this doc about why Jaws stands the test of time. This contrasts with Making since it touches on how Jaws changed Hollywood and why studios started putting their entire attention to blockbusters.
