The trailer for David Finkel’s new drama, Collateral Beauty starring Will Smith, was released this morning. Right in time for the holidays, Collateral Beauty appears to share similar themes with the classic holiday tale, It’s A Wonderful Life.
Smith portrays a New York businessman who, after a tragic accident, begins to fall into a deep depression. While on his downward spiral his friends, played by Michael Pena, Edward Norton, and Kate Winslet, become concerned when they discover he has begun to write letters to various inanimate things such as; Time, Love, and Death. While his friends are unsure if what he’s doing is therapeutic or destructive, the impossible happens. Smith is visited by the three themes he has been writing to. Death, Time, and Love, portrayed by Helen Mirren, Jacob Latimore, and Keira Knightley, show up in response to his letters. Each one works as a mentor guiding Smith’s character with hopes of him learning how to live again.
