Since 2002, the concept of a Greek wedding has been popular on the film scene, thanks to director Joel Zwick’s My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It became massively profitable, earning two sequels; one in 2016 and another coming out later this year, with a trailer just released.
Following the death of the head of the family, the rest of the Portokalos clan embark on a trip to Greece to coincide with his final wishes. Once there, they seemingly do what he intended: connect with their roots, but he would be more than pleased with them. The trailer was packed with a lot of why people liked the first film, to begin with, that being a healthy dosage of easily accessible comedy while also juggling real familial troubles that some could face with these situations.
This newest installment seems to promise more of a family reunion, with hints of a wedding still in the air. Star Nia Vardalos steps into the director’s chair for the first time since 2009’s I Hate Valentines Day. Also returning to the cast are John Corbett and Lainie Kazan, among others.
