Kevin Smith; known for his films Clerks, Tusk, and Mallrats; is back with an all-new trailer for his upcoming coming-of-age film, The 4:30 Movie. This new project takes place in the summer of 1986, and follows three 16-year-old boys; Austin Zajur as Brian, as well as Nicholas Cirillo and Reed Northrup; as they spend their Saturdays sneaking into the local cineplex to immerse themselves into the world of cinema, but everything changes one day as Brian builds up the courage to ask out his longtime crush Melody, played by Siena Agudong, to go on a date to the movies. His plans begin to go awry when the trio starts a rivalry with the Cineplex manager, Mike, played by Ken Jeong.
Smith directed and wrote this project with Elizabeth Desto as producer and Bill Bromiley, Shanan Becker, and Jonathan Saba as executive producers. The project is backed up by Saban Films. The cast will also include Rosario Dawson, Sam Richardson, Genesis Rodriguez, Justin Long, Jason Lee, Rachel Dratch, and many others.
Smith explains that this upcoming project is his “most personal film to date,” as the New Jersey native filmed in his hometown of Atlantic Highlands, NJ. The 4:30 Movie will premiere at Smodcastle Cinemas, in Atlantic Highlands on August 24, the same theatre Smith saved in 2022 from demolition. “It’s personal paean to the John Hughes coming-of-age movies I grew up watching, shot in the same movie theater where I saw ’em all as a kid!,” Smith explained in a recent Instagram post.
He then went on to say, “The 4:30 Movie is a not-so-secret origin story set in my hometown of #highlandsnj and neighboring #atlantichighlandsnj where @smodcastlecinemas lives! @saban_films is releasing it in theaters everywhere on SEPTEMBER 13th, but if you wanna attend the World Premiere on August 24th at @smodcastlecinemas where we filmed the flick, tickets are on sale right now at The430Movie.movie! When real life sucks, REEL life rules!”
For the World Premiere event, all ticket sales will help support Smodcastle Cinemas 501c non-profit organization. Tickets will start at $100 for general admission and will go up from there for more viewing perks.
The 4:30 Movie will be in theatres starting September 13.
