The trailer has been released for Bill Condon’s newest film. From Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate, viewers get a special look at Kiss Of The Spider Woman, starring Diego Luna.
After Luna’s character, Valentín, gets sentenced to prison in a country rife with conflict, he strikes up an unusual friendship with his cellmate. As the realities of life begin to close in on them, they begin to recount a film together, learning how to depend on one another as the situation goes from bad to worse.
Set to star alongside Luna is Tonatiuh as his cellmate, with Jennifer Lopez as the lead talent of the film they retell. Also featured is Tony Dovolani, Josefina Scaglione, Bruno Bichir, and Aline Mayagoitia. A press release from Lionsgate states that producers on the project include Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdhay, and Greg Yolen.
The story of Kiss Of The Spider Woman has bounced around mediums since it was first circulated in 1976. Originally published as a novel from Manuel Puig, it was translated into a stage show in the early 1990’s. Terrence McNally wrote the stage musical, with lyrics by Fred Ebb and music by John Kander.
The musical aesthetic is given to audiences in the trailer through the fictitious in-world movie, with the vibrant, flashy style clashing with the cell that’s home to the two main leads.
Condon takes up both directing and writing for Kiss Of The Spider Woman. The director of Gods And Monsters as well as both parts of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Condon already has his fair share of experience with musicals. He was a writer on both Chicago and The Greatest Showman, and was even the director of the live-action remake of Beauty And The Beast.
Kiss Of The Spider Woman hits theaters October 10th. Check out the trailer below.
