Trailer Released for ‘Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day’

The newly released trailer for Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day shows that no one is safe.  As already confirmed from the synopsis, Alexander is no longer the only one suffering from “bad days,” as was the case in Judith Viorst’s book.

Alexander (newcomer Ed Oxenbould who, incidentally, is from Australia – where Viorst’s Alexander yearns to go) certainly has his fair share, but his family members – apparently unfamiliar with “bad days” – have a day replete with bizarre happenings and misfortunes, including house dwelling alligators, a failed (with a capital “F”) driving test, and an inflamed pirate shirt.

The cast, headed by stars Steve Carrell (Anchorman 2, The Way Way Back) and Jennifer Garner (Dallas Buyers Club), features Dylan Minnette (Prisoners) and Kerris Dorsey (Moneyball) as Alexander’s older brother and sister, respectively, along with Bella Thorne (Shake It Up!), Megan Mullally (Will and Grace), and Jennifer Coolidge (Legally Blonde, American Pie).

The odd choice of director Miguel Arteta bears repeating: he is known for his raunchy, adult-oriented films (Cedar Rapids, Youth in Revolt, The Good Girl, Chuck and Buck), but given the critical praise behind those efforts, his venture into PG-rated “kids” territory warrants special interest.  The produced feature-length script from Rob Lieber is his first.  Producers Lisa Henson (Five Children and It, Good Boy) and Shawn Levy (Director: Cheaper by the Dozen (2003), Big Fat Liar, have plenty of experience with “kids” comedies, while Dan Levine marks his debut as a producer (he previously executive produced The Internship, Freedom Writers, and Along Came Polly).

The film opens on October 10 (if only it was Friday the 13th…).
