A new film from Francis Lawrence is soon to be released, marking a departure from the Hunger Games universe for him. A trailer for his newest feature, The Long Walk, has been debuted.
The Long Walk follows a group of teenagers partaking in a dangerous game; keep up a consistent speed while walking or risk getting killed. Much like the upcoming Running Man, The Long Walk is based off of a Stephen King novel when he was still using the Richard Bachman pseudonym.
JT Mollner, writer and director of Strange Darling, is adapting the story for the screen. Lawrence is serving as a producer as well, alongside Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, and Cameron MacConomy.
The cast is led by Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Charlie Plummer, Jordan Gonzalez, and Tut Nyuot. Supporting cast members include Ben Wang of the upcoming Karate Kid: Legends, Halloween’s Judy Greer, and even Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill.
The trailer itself shows the conditions of the walk itself with a voice over from Hamill’s character. “There’s one winner, and no finish line,” he explains, as he spells out the grisly rules of the contest for those involved. The voice over is combined with scenes showcasing the extremely harsh conditions the contestants will face, as the group thins more and more.
