Yesterday we saw the release of the first trailer for Paddleton, which is a dramedy film and Netflix original that will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next month before releasing on the streaming platform. It stars Mark Duplass (Creep, Tully), who is also producer and co-writer of the film, and Ray Romano (Ice Age Series, The Big Sick).
Paddleton will follow stars Romano and Duplass going through turmoil and emotional events as Duplass’s character is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Before ending his life via assisted suicide, the two friends and their bromance take a break from the game they invented and spend much of their time playing called “Paddleton”, and go on a road trip together. This can be seen in the trailer as the two neighbors wield their tennis rackets, whacking a ball around before they learn that Michael’s (Duplass) prescription has to be filled six hours away. The two decide to take a trip to get the medications, and make stops along the way. We also see them arguing as the tense nature of their relationship while the illness escalates, but the friendship persists regardless.
Starring alongside Duplass and Romano will be Ravi Patel and Christine Woods in this Alex Lehmann directed movie that feels right for a Sundance premiere with its story of an unlikely friendship in the face of tribulation, dealing with a bit of fragile masculinity.
Paddleton will be available on Netflix on February 22nd of this year and the trailer can be checked out below.
