Tom Holland Teases Progress On ‘Spider-Man 4’ Script With Zendaya

Tom Holland recently shared some exciting yet cautious updates about the highly anticipated Spider-Man 4. Speaking on the Rich Roll Podcast, the actor revealed that he and co-star Zendaya, who plays MJ, read an early draft of the script together.

While the pair are enthusiastic about the film, Holland noted that the project is still in development. “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job,” Holland remarked, offering a glimpse into the ongoing creative process.

Holland, who has portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in three standalone films and several major Marvel crossovers, emphasized the challenges of aligning the movie with the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) timeline.

“One of the things to bear in mind with Marvel is that your film is a small cog in a large machine,” he said. “And that machine has got to keep running… That’s one of the challenges we’re facing.”

He added that despite these hurdles, the creative team is moving forward with a strong foundation.

“We’ve got a creative and a pitch and a draft, which is excellent,” he said, adding that reading the script “lit a fire” in him and Zendaya. At one point, Holland said, “We were bouncing around the living room like, ‘This is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.’”

However, some elements still need to be ironed out before production can truly get underway.

Last month, The Hollywood Reporter shared that Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to direct the fourth installment, taking over from Jon Watts, who directed the first three Spider-Man movies. Holland, who has expressed a deep sense of responsibility toward the character, previously told Collider that he would only return if the storyline does “justice to the character.”

With the script still evolving, fans can expect further developments as the creative team continues to refine the next chapter of Spider-Man’s journey.
