In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tom Holland commented on the status of the highly-anticipated Spiderman 4, per ScreenRant. This comes as the first announcement since the December 2021 release of Spiderman: No Way Home, a film concluding with Holland’s Peter Parker being removed from the collective memory of his world.
Because of this plot point, the fourth film in the MCU Spiderman series will feature a Spiderman without the aid of Tony Stark’s technology or the other Avengers. Despite forgetting his existence and secret superhero identity, Zendaya is set to reprise her role as MJ. It is unclear at this point whether the other main-stay characters in the MCU Spiderman canon such as Ned Leeds will return, as Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios still have time to negotiate returns. Alongside these negotiations will come casting for new characters and a new antagonist for a world that Peter Parker has already scrubbed of all evil thrice before.
When asked about Spiderman 4, Holland had this to offer: “Yeah, next summer – next summer we start shooting, everything’s good to go, we’re nearly there, super exciting. I can’t wait.” With this in mind, we can expect more information regarding the release to circulate as Spiderman 4 goes into production: a solid theatrical release date, casting announcements, and promotional material.
Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct the upcoming Spiderman film. He is known for his work on films such as the MCU Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Glass Castle.
