Per The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Holland (Captain America: Civil War) appears to be in talks to join Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) in Chaos Walking, an upcoming adaptation of Patrick Ness’s YA bestseller. Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow) is attached to direct the film, a dystopian science thriller thriller. Holland, of course, is on the brink of international stardom having won the coveted role of the latest iteration of webslinger Peter Parker; he debuted the part to critical and commercial fanfare in this summer’s Captain America: Civil War and will headline next year’s hotly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Chaos Walking would feature Holland is less sunnier attire as the project revolves around a world without women, who have been offed by a germ of some kind. Also in the world created by Ness, everyone is privy to each other’s thoughts in a stream of images, words and sounds called Noise. If Holland does join the film, he would portray a young man who along with his trusty canine friend must leave his town who happens upon a strange sight: a young woman (to be played by Ridley). Oscar winning scribe Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Anomalisa) played a hand in writing the script as did Jamie Linden (recently credited with Money Monster).
So, if plans come to work out, two of the hottest rising stars currently around – and headliners of two of the largest franchises around – could come together. The film also marks yet another eclectic entry for Holland. Aside from his Spidey duties, the young actor (who made his debut in the 2012 family disaster drama The Impossible) has The Lost City of Z coming out next year and is set to appear in the upcoming prestige period drama The Current War. He also appeared in last year’s In the Heart of the Sea.
Chaos Walking is being put together by Lionsgate is looking ahead to a 2018 release. We will stay tuned to the latest.
