A few potentially big deals appear to be underway as Paramount is readying their forthcoming thriller Triple Frontier. The film, which has script from Oscar winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) and will be directed by J.C. Chandor (The Most Violent Year), may be getting some major star power in the form of Tom Hardy and Channing Tatum. Deadline was the first to report this year and while nothing is set in stone as of yet, conversations appears to be in action and early efforts appear to be in the works.
The potentially politically motivated thriller concerns the perilous border zones between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil – where the Iguazu and Parana rivers converge – a hot spot for organized crime. At one point, frequent Boal collaborator Kathryn Bigelow (Oscar winning director of The Hurt Locker) was set to helm the picture and at various stages actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks and Johnny Depp all expressed interest in the film. With a pedigree like that in Triple Frontier‘s past, it seems certain, regardless of whether or not Hardy and Tatum themselves become available for the title, that stellar talent would gravitate towards the film. Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing the movie.
Chandor has already established a cred with only a few movies to his credit. He earned an Oscar nomination for penning his economic crisis breakthrough Margin Call, and followed that film up with the critically admired Robert Redford-stranded-at-sea film All is Lost as well as the 2014 drama A Most Violent Year starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain.
The in-demand Tatum last appeared on screen in Hail, Caesar! and will be featured this year in Kingsman: The Golden Circle as well as Steven Soderbergh’s Logan Lucky. Hardy is equally busy – the Oscar nominated actor is set to headline the upcoming FX series Taboo and appears in Christopher Nolan’s World War II epic Dunkirk, heading to theaters this summer.
