Elvis Presley has always been known as one of the greatest forces in the history of American music, called “The King of Rock and Roll”, but has never had a conventional biographical feature film made about him until recently. Australian writer and director, Baz Luhrmann, known for directing the 1996 Romeo + Juliet and 2013 adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby, has been chosen to helm the film housed at Warner Bros. which has been negotiating with American actor, Tom Hanks, for a role in the film.
If cast, Hanks would portray Presley’s iconic manager, Thomas Andrew Parker (aka Colonel Tom Parker) who was known for marketing Elvis and making him extremely successful. Hanks always had a knack for playing “The American” in films which would be an interesting dynamic in the role of Parker who looked like any American Southerner but actually concealed a Dutch birth and childhood past in the Netherlands.
The script for the film was written by Luhrmann with the help of frequent collaborator and Australian screenwriter/actor, Craig Pearce. There has been no choice or deal made regarding an actor for the role of Presley with the project remaining in development. This news was originally reported by Variety.
