Tom Hanks Portrays Beloved Icon Mr. Rogers in First Trailer for ‘A Beautiful Day in The Neighborhood’

With the release of the famous Documentary Won’t You Be My Neighbor?  last year, audiences will also have another film about the life of the great Fred Rogers this year. The film in question is biopic titled, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and will feature beloved Academy Award Winning Actor Tom Hanks portraying Mr. Rogers. The upcoming biopic has just released its first trailer today.

The trailer begins with a journalist named Tom Junod (Matthew Rhys) traveling to the studio where they shot Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. We then shortly see a recreation of the show’s intro, this time with Tom Hanks singing the iconic theme song to Fred Rogers’ show. Junod then shortly introduced himself to Rogers as he wants to interview him about his life. Junod wants to find out as much information about Rogers’ life as possible, but it is clear through various montages that he doesn’t just learn about Rogers as a person, but also his philosophy on life and how he wants to make a world a better place through education. The trailer ends with Mr. Rogers being recognized on a subway, everyone there starts singing It’s a Beautiful Day in The Neighborhood to which Rogers is incredibly flattered by.

The trailer showcases a lot of what many expect from a biopic like this. It is very wholesome and sweet much like Mr. Rogers and also hints at why he acts the way he did in terms trying to teach audiences about being kind to others. Hanks seem to be selling the role as Rogers very well, which isn’t uncommon for him considering he has played many famous figures in the past before from Charlie Wilson to Walt Disney. If any actor could portray someone as nice as Mr. Rogers, it would easily be an actor who is known for playing iconic figures and being a charming person to work with. The film is certainly set to have some Oscar buzz this holiday season when it’s released.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is set for release November 22nd, 2019.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
