Tom Cruise Teases Footage of ’Top Gun: Maverick’ During AFC Championship

Tom Cruise suits up for some intense jet fighter action—and epic championship football.

Yesterday, CBS Sports and the NFL aired footage from Tom Cruise’s upcoming pic, Top Gun: Maverick into the AFC Championship tease that lead into the game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs. The clip was headlined as “The Time is Now”, says Deadline.

With high-speed jets and explosive dogfights followed by jaw-dropping plays from both teams, Cruise likened the game to the determination to be the best for what it takes to be a top gun. Maverick is the long-awaited sequel to the 1986 Top Gun, set for release on May 27 from Paramount. The film has experienced multiple pushbacks alongside Cruise’s Mission Impossible films, but the sequel will finally be ready to watch this summer.

Fun fact, both game quarterbacks Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes were not even born yet when the original was released.

Here is some of Cruise’s narration from the teaser: “Two teams, coming off heart-pounding wins. Two organizations on the edge of history. Both committed to being the best of the best. The stage is set: It’s the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals. A dogfight for the AFC Championship. So let’s kick the tires and light the fires. Because the time is now.”
