Tom Cruise disagrees about being called “the last movie star”, praising the work of a fellow actor as an example, Variety reports.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight to promote the eighth and possibly last entry in his Mission: Impossible series, Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning, Cruise was asked what he thought about the media’s label of his being considered “the last movie star” and was quick to brush it off, saying:
I don’t want to be. There’s so many other talented actors out there, and I want to see them crush it.
He then pointed to Michael B. Jordan as an example, praising his work in his latest collaboration with director Ryan Coogler, Sinners, which has currently grossed $357 million worldwide, and expressed his desire to work with him.
Despite recent box office struggles, Cruise, whose efforts to keep production going during the pandemic resulted in success with Top Gun: Maverick, is optimistic about the industry’s future and the upcoming season, saying,
It’s going to be a great summer of movies.
The 63-year-old actor doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon either. He has multiple projects planned with Mission: Impossible writer and director Christopher McQuarrie, including a Tropic Thunder spin-off following his studio chief character, Les Grossman.
Mission: Impossible- The Final Reckoning is now playing in theaters.
