Timothée Chalamet has become very well recognized in the past couple years. With his roles in Call Me By Your Name and Little Women, the up and coming actor actor is setting himself up for another potential Oscar contender, having signed on to play iconic folk musician Bob Dylan in an upcoming biopic from Ford v. Ferrari director James Mangold.
Searchlight Pictures is set to make a biopic on Dylan and, while the film does not have an official name yet, it’s currently titled Going Electric. The film will take place during Dylan’s transition from Folk to rock music, a big turning point in his career when many fans were initially against a figure like him becoming a rock artist. In fact, the backlash was so much so that there was a huge outcry when Bob Dylan traded his old acoustic guitar for an electric one. Jeff Rose, Dylan’s longtime manager, is set to produce the biopic with Searchlight.
Both Chalamet and Mangold are excellent choices for this upcoming project for various reasons. Although Timothée Chalamet is young, he’s also very experienced with music and is known for his skills with both acoustic and electric guitar. James Mangold is also experienced with musical biopics himself, as prior to Ford v. Ferrari and Logan, he directed the Johnny Cash biopic, Walk the Line. With both Mangold and Chalamet’s prior expertise and talent, the film could make for a very faithful biopic on one of the world’s most famous musical icons.
