Tim Wardle will be directing a film about the disastrous luxury music festival: Fyre Festival. The project will be based on the script written by Emily Jerome. New Line and FlynnPictureCo. have acquired the rights to the Vanity Fair article, “Fyre Festival: Anatomy of a Millennial Marketing Disaster Waiting to Happen”, written by Bryan Burrough to be used as material for the script Jerome is penning.
The Festival has already been the subject of two films, Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened and Fyre Fraud, created by Netflix and Hulu respectively. The films were made as documentaries to allow viewers to witness what Festival attendees experienced when they arrived on the island.
The plot will focus on aspiring entrepreneur Billy McFarland’s failed attempt to host an extravagant music festival. Dubbed as “an immersive music festival” in promotional materials, McFarland leveraged social media to advertise the event and entice individuals to attend. He hired models such as Emily Ratajkowski and Bella Hadid to pose on an island and swim, emulating what the potential experience would look like if people decided to partake in the party.
Wardle has just emerged from the success of his documentary, Three Identical Strangers, which details the reunion of three identical twins who were separated at birth. This news was first reported by Deadline.
