Alexandre Moors‘ upcoming film, based on the best-selling novel of the same name, The Yellow Birds, has dropped its first trailer, and we are already gripping the edge of our seats in anticipation.
The plot revolves around Brandon Bartle (Alden Ehrenreich) and Daniel Murphy (Tye Sheridan), two soldiers fighting their way through the Iraq War while also dealing with their troubled and abusive commanding officer, Sergeant Sterling (Jack Huston). Before their deployment, Bartle makes a promise to “Murphe’s” mother (Jennifer Aniston) that he may not have been able to keep.
In the trailer, we immediately see the tension placed upon the families of the soldiers as well as the soldiers themselves after they’ve returned from war. Bartle’s mother, Amy Bartle (Toni Collette), says it best with her line “You had him once already. You don’t get to take him again.”
After Bartle’s promise to protect Murph, we see just how difficult that promise may actually be to keep once the men are in the depths of the war-torn country. When Bartle returns, we know he is hiding something from his mother, Murph’s mother, and the military officers.
What is that mystery? Will their families ever be the same? Who is to blame?
We will find out when the film hit theaters on June 15, 2018.
