‘The Wrecking Crew’ Trailer Pits Jason Momoa And Dave Bautista Face To Face With Yakuza

The Amazon MGM film The Wrecking Crew will be dropping on Prime Video on. January 28.  Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista star in this action-comedy as two brothers with some obvious tension.  Ángel Manuel Soto is the director, having directed DC Studios’ Blue Beetle.

The backdrop for the film is Hawaii, the plot focusing on alienated half-brothers Jonny (Momoa) and James (Bautista) looking into their father’s death.  This will quickly become difficult as they discover the yakuza is hunting them down.  The trailer highlights the relationship between James and Jonny, showing off the comedic tone when Jonny accidentally blows up James’ car.

Jonathan Tropper penned the script for the film, also the writer behind The Adam Project and 2027’s Star Wars: Starfighter. James Fierson, Matt Reeves, and Lynn Harris are attached as producers, with our two leads also credited as producers.  Momoa is coming off A Minecraft Movie from 2025, with 2026 promising to be a big year for the actor as he is also set to appear in Supergirl, Street Fighter, and Dune: Part 3. Dave Bautista is a few years removed from a major role in the MCU portraying Drax, a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.  Soto made it clear that he directed the film with the intent that Momoa and Bautista’s on-screen roles were similar to their real-life personalities.

The Hollywood Reporter quoted Soto describing the two actors and their respective roles:

Jason brings this wild, crazy, unpredictable side… And Dave brings this disciplined, methodical, slow-burn intensity to him. And, well, they’re both big. They have a lot of gravity. As men, they couldn’t be more different from each other. So what you see in the movie is not that different from the way they are in real life.

Stephen Root, Morena Baccarin, Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Jacob Batalon, Frankie Adams and Miyavi make up the supporting cast.  The film will be available to stream on January 28, so we won’t have to wait too long to see if Soto’s vision proved to be successful.
