The Toronto International Film Festival has selected two more honorees. Both Jodie Foster and Guillermo del Toro will receive special accolades at the festival.
Foster is set to be the recipient of the Share Her Journey Groundbreaker award. Past recipients for the award include other big name actresses like Michelle Yeoh in 2022, Patricia Arquette in 23, and Cate Blanchett in 24.
Foster boasts a star-studded career starring in numerous iconic films such as Taxi Driver, Panic Room, and Contact. However, her most acclaimed role was that of FBI trainee Clarice Starling in Silence Of The Lambs. Starring opposite Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter, the film would result in her second Academy Award for Best Actress, the first being for The Accused.
On the other hand, del Toro will be receiving the Ebert Director Award. Past winners include directors such as Taika Waititi for Jojo Rabbit and Denis Villeneuve for Dune. Hollywood Reporter notes that this coincides with del Toro premiering his newest movie, a brand new take on Frankenstein, at the fest.
On top of his Frankenstein, led by Oscar Isaac, del Toro has become a master of macabre stories which he built his name on. He’s directed countless acclaimed movies with the hallmarks of his style, including award winners like The Shape Of Water and Pinocchio.
