‘The Royal Hotel’ Starts Gaining Attention Through Toronto Film Festival And Early Screenings

A new film from director Kitty Green is just on the horizon. The Royal Hotel, starring Julia Garner and Jessica Henwick, is set to make a circuit at the Toronto Film Festival.

On top of Toronto, the film is also holding 2 preview showings, ahead of the release. At Toronto, it had a showing Thursday night, one Monday night, and one coming up on Wednesday the 13th.

A synopsis for the film reads as follows: “Americans Hanna and Liv are best friends backpacking in Australia. After they run out of money, Liv, looking for an adventure, convinces Hanna to take a temporary live-in job behind the bar of a pub called ‘The Royal Hotel’ in a remote Outback mining town. Bar owner Billy and a host of locals give the girls a riotous introduction to Down Under drinking culture but soon Hanna and Liv find themselves trapped in an unnerving situation that grows rapidly out of their control.”

As well as Garner and Henwick, the film also stars Toby Wallace, Hugo Weaving, Ursula Yovich, Daniel Henshall, James Frecheville, and Herbert Nordrum. It is also being produced by Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Liz Watts, and Kath Shelper. Canning and Sherman also worked as producers on Academy Award-nominated Power Of The Dog

The film will get a theatrical release starting October 6th.
