A movie called The Rhythm Section was released last week and, despite only being out for a few days, it has unfortunately been declared on of the biggest box office bombs in history. According to sources like People and ScreenRant, the movie has only earned a measly $2.8 million after being screened in 3,000 theaters, and unfortunately the movie was made on a budget of over $50 million. It is believed that Paramount studios could lose $30 million because of this movie.
The Rhythm Section was directed by Reed Morano, and starred Blake Lively and Jude Law. In the movie Lively plays a prostitute named Stephanie Patrick who loses her family in a plane crash. Stephanie eventually learns that the crash was not really an accident, and this causes her to seek revenge on the people responsible for killing her family. Helping her on her journey is an ex-MI6 agent, played by Law.
While Rotten Tomatoes has branded The Rhythm Section with scathing score of 30%, The Hollywood Reporter was a bit more forgiving, describing the movie as having a unique twist on the spy genre. Unfortunately, most critics have labeled the movie as predictable and banal. As of right now, The Rhythm Section currently holds the record for the worst movie premiere for a film released in over 3,000 theaters.
