HBO’s The Princess has officially announced its television premiere date: August 13, a mere 18 days before the 25th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana Spencer. Oscar-nominated director Ed Perkins is known for his documentaries and has accumulated international acclaim throughout his career, making him the natural choice to direct the upcoming Princess of Wales documentary. The Princess is a film that centers around a private and intimate look into some landmark moments in Spencer’s life that she was forced to share with the public eye.
Events such as her courtship with Prince Charles, the Royal wedding, the births of Princes William and Harry, her divorce, and her tragic death will be featured in the documentary. It will highlight the praise and love shown to Diana by the public, but also the intense nitpicking and the judgement she experienced in both public and private.
The history will be shown in the present tense, allowing the audience to experience the events as they occur in audio and video form handpicked from Spencer’s archives.
Though the film initially premiered this year at Sundance in January, The Princess will be available for viewing on August 13 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on cable.
